Beyond providing a suitable supporting structure, our aim is to create a system offering the optimum in terms of application viability, strength, stability and cost-effectiveness.

IBAF develops machine structures for every conceivable application. We can serve initially through determination of loads and definition of requirements or assume full responsibility up to the handing-over of all manufacturing documents, with all necessary strength verification analyses as part of the package.

Determination of loads and definition of requirements

The detailed design of a machine and the integrated support structure can only be as good as the underlying concept with the relevant requirements suitable defined. IBAF can provide essential assistance right from the early initiation phase with the following services:

  • Preparation of prescriptive specifications and performance / service level agreements
  • Determination of loads by simulation or measurement
  • Comparison of production options and consultation on other preferences

3D CAD development

From the general arrangement drawing to the galvanised fin as a flame-cut part, literally every detail is given careful consideration. Whether this results in an edge joint construction, a welded assembly or a profile-based solution depends on your preferences. Using the agreed software solution, drawings and parts lists / BoMs are then created according to your specifications and guidelines.

To ensure achievement of structural optimisation, engineering calculations need to be incorporated into the development process right from the start. Hence, appropriately sophisticated models aligned to fast iteration are assembled and evaluated in line with requirements.

Calculation and validation of supporting structures

To avoid interface losses, we supply both the mechanical design and the engineering calculations on a single-source basis. Fatigue analyses and strength verifications according to industry-specific or other specialist technical standards are all part of the service. Modal or frequency response analyses are carried out as necessary to ensure that the integrated drives do not excite the natural (eigen) frequency of the system. Where necessary, the documentation is drafted for verification, with due adaptation to special requirements also being ensured.

Every detail needs careful attention if a support structure is to be optimised. Our objective is to deliver a fully proven, engineered system ensuring guaranteed performance for a minimum in effort and outlay.
